MK3 Supra Street Build
« on: April 29, 2012, 11:38:41 AM »
Okay so im not new on the forum. I had other projects but i wont speak of which. Anyways. I live in california now and needed a car for work/school/fun. Ive had 240's, RX7's and wanted to do something else. so i looked around forever and found a great deal on this.

1986.5 Toyota Supra
7MGE 196,XXX
W58 5-Speed
Non Targa

Body is overall okay aside from paint. Its faded off most of the front end, and on the front upper valance the idiot tried to paint and sand it and fucked it up bad and ya. ill be getting a new one of those.
Also when i drove it home the CEL came on.

So Engine was misfiring, i found these

So i replaced them with new ones and double platinum as what came oem.

So replaced some parts to get the motor ready for regular driving again

Exhaust/Intake mani gaskets
intake y pipe gasket
throttle body gasket
cleaned out IACV w new gasket
Put a thermostat in, since the idiot took it out and left no thermo in there
Brakes
PS lines
Valve cover gaskets
Moved the timing to the correct degree, was at 6

Took out some un needed wiring

None of that above was being used and just exposed wires everywhere

Next i took a trip down to my friends here at Driftmotion since there only 10 miles from me and picked some stuff up

Marlin crawler shifter bushings and OEM battery hold down bracket

After i put the bushings in, i stumbled on a MOD know as the SOGI short shifter mod, so i proceeded and the result i love. feels great from the new bushings and the height is perfect

Driftmotion Delrin Shift knob

Found a guy in LA trashing a totaled 89 turbo car so i picked up the tails for cheap

Pre 89 Tails

89 + Tails Installed

Before you ask, on USDM supras the center light is brighter, the JDM ones are all the same. Im just gonna tint them and be done with it.

How the car sits today

Taking a trip to Driftmotion tomorrow when they open so more parts coming,
Future plans are to really drive the car till the 7M blows
-then find a 1J or make a 1.5J
-replace suspension
-lower
-89+ front end swap
-89+ Stock 3 Piece spoiler
-R154 Tranny swap
-Paint

Thanks man i was gonna go with a 1uz but ive always loved the JZ engines and also if im gonna spend money to swap in a motor its gonna be a JZ. if i got a turbo 7M it would have to be next to free for me to want to put it in. dont get me wrong, they can produce just as good. but its not a JZ ha  :P

Thanks yao, im gonna try. i dont know much about the drift scene out here in socal but im gonna start looking around once the car gets closer to being safe and sound.

As i stated before im did the 91 front end, needs a little work but for around 60 bucks for everything why not. looks so good to me. This is just with the lower bumper on and the corner lights, needed the upper part as well i found out later

This is with the 91 front upper, new grills, corners, and updated toyota emblem instead of that ugly celica supra looking front emblem. bleh haha. still have it though for memorabilia haha :P

In the process of moving so kinda halted somethings, but im gonna do the center driveshaft bearing with the ford ranger mod. other than that. some odd ball things im gonna be doing. ill keep this updated with progress.

Meet my version of the tie rod tool! lol  :-*

Driver side had a huge bend

Also i started getting this really bad vibration shaking the whole car, i checked everything, i honestly though it was the tie rod. well i took my car into driftmotion had aaron look at it. he ended up swapping the whole driveshaft and carrier bearing for me in a hour or two. only charged me 80 bucks. such a cool guy, even better service/shop. will def recommend them to anyone for parts.

***Updates***
