Hey guys gonna do one more post today.  The engine should pretty much be ready by the end of today to go in and then I gotta get the tranny and work that.  But for now the engine.  Tomorrow I'll be leaving to back to AZ for a week to visit family and friends before I actually leave to S. Korea.

Munki's 93 Hatch build-up

As promised here's the latest and greatest in my world.  Got the pics uploaded and ready to go.

Thought today to get around to changing the water pump.  I orginally ordered an S14 water pump since it's a lil bit bigger and is somewhat of an upgrade, but instead was sent an S13 pump.  Don't wanna deal with sending it back and waiting for a new one so it'll do for now.  Just trying to get the better pump since we live in the desert and cooling is a must!

Old pump

Simple taking off.  6 bolts and remove.  Don't forgot to prep the surface.  (FYI S14 pumps have holes for 7 bolts but it won't matter cuz it'll seal regardless)

S13 water pump and part #

Seal and bolt her up.  Simple and yet a small price to pay to ensure better temps

Now for a little bit of eye candy and lighter pulleys.  Don't expect to gain much (if anything) for the swap, but at least it'll put a lighter load on the crank.  Kinda wish I coulda found some GREDDY one's but it's pretty hard.  So I managed to buy these CIRCUIT SPORTS ones off a forum member here.  (sorry, forgot your tag or I'd give ya props, pm me and I'll edit).

Here we go CIRCUIT SPORTS S13 pulleys

Water pump is stall is simple, pretty.  lol

Now for the thermostat housing.  Cleaned up and sealed up to the block.  Sorry before and install pics.  Boo.  Took out old thermostat and cleaned and prepped the surface.

Putting in the lower temp NISMO thermostat.  Remember it's a desert out there!   (So be water smart? lol)

Popped in place and made sure it's right side up.

Water neck back on and sealed

For the time being I added the additional parts for the turbo for both the intake and hotpipe.  Luckily they all came with the intake kit.

Going with a Greddy intake.  They actually made a kit that is made for a S13 with a T28 and Z32 MAF.  WiN!

Everything provided minus the hot pipe gasket!  (Needed to order)

Inlet side

Inlet part with included gasket

Done

Part # for the hot pipe seal

The new neck

Installed.

Now I noticed that the new neck is pretty close to the manifold and if I pretty much put the hose on it'll definately touch and melt.  I just might have to swap back to the old one.  Won't know until I have the motor in the car.  If new one works a lot better for angle then I'll have to get the compressor housing re-clocked just a bit!  Which means.....sigh....pulling the turbo.  I hope the old one works better!

I finally got the banjo bolt in as well which means all the turbo lines are done!

I wanted to have a different source for the water temps for a gauge.  So I ordered the S14 water outlet neck as it comes with a bung that is originally used for the turbo but can also be used for a sensor.  Also is slightly different in shape from the S13 I noticed, seems more clearance for the CAS.  It's also a lot better than either cutting your upper radiator pipe and putting an adapter or getting a upper rad pipe with the bung already there.  I have the second option and wanted a cleaner look.  So if anyone need some hoses Pm me.  Bottom is SAMCO and top is BLITZ.

Part # for S14 water outlet neck

Installed and adapter for sensor installed, dont forget to seal. (pretty bad at taking old vs new pics)

Because I like all things new and clean.  New oil dipstick and tube guide.

Installed pic and most everthing else.

Last thing is replacing the factory lil catch can.

I've never really seen a reason to actually have and keep this item.  I've ran a hose and deleted it and have seen others do it also well with no ill affects.  So until given a reason to keep it, I'll keep up the tradition!  lol :P

Factory mounting location is here.  Hoses connect to the bottom opening and then top to the T fitting on the valve cover.

Hose and fitting from JEGS

Because it's steel braided (heat protection, remember it's above the exhaust!) tape where you should be cutting.  Just prevent fraying and have a cleaner cut, then cut it.

Remove the tape and slip over the schmancy fittings and slip on and tighten down the clamps.  Gives a nice and clean look.

Alrighty, unfortunately this was as much as I could do.  I ran into some unfortunate snags!  (I threw away both OEM water sensors accidently while back, remembered after searching. FAIL!)  Also took the dogs out to the park, clean house/yard and get some hoses to hack up for a later heater hose project.  Until then, it's time to max and relax with the fam.  Will continue at a later date! ;D

If you start blowing insane amounts of oil out of your valve cover i'd advise putting the factory catch can back on. Unlike the redesigned S14 valve cover, that can is really the only "baffling" that the S13 motor has.

I took mine off when i was in Japan and ended up having to put it back on for that very reason. I just recommend keeping it around just in case.

Yeah, I'll keep an eye out for that down the road.  Just hoping that at least one catch can will suffice.  Especially when I don't want oily residue in the intake.  I'll still keep it around until then.  Thnx for the input, always appreciated.

Thank you very much.  I'm trying to get it done as soon as possible.  I thought that by going on leave I'd have time, but ended up busy still trying to get other things in order before I leave.  Boo!  But, anywho at least I heard some good news!  My car should be done and ready to tow back next weekend!  YES!!!

the thing about the factory can is that it's designed to capture the oil and then it just drops out the bottom of the can and recirculates back into the system where it belongs. It's very difficult to setup an aftermarket catch can in this configuration without a little modification and basically having it mounted in the same spot.

As previously stated, though, you may not experience the same symptoms that i was and you may not need the can.

I'll cross my fingers that it doesn't.  lol :P  Until then I can't wait to hear her running again! ;D

Sorry having no updates as of late.  As stated last week I went back home to AZ to visit some family and friends.  But now that I'm back and refreshed time to keep on going.

Finally cleaned up my alternator bracket.  I'd like to one day re-paint all the brackets.  Probably powder coat and even maybe a different color.  lol

location

Done

I also cleaned and put on the power steering bracket but once again forget pics!  lol.  Also I'm not going to be running AC so didn't even bother with the AC compressor bracket.  less weight!

Since both brackets are on I started getting around to taking off the OEM pulleys and replacing them with the previous set of blue CIRCUIT SPORTS pulleys.  Since I don't have a air compressor and and air rachet I had to get a little bit creative on taking off the power steering pulley.  I used a combination of both a rubber strap wrench and a 6" extension to both take off and install both pulleys with a breaker bar!  lol

OEM power steering pulley

New one installed

Kinda random moment but I put the knock sensor back on.  I know, random install during pulley installs!

Sometime around the sensor install I noticed one of my neighbors came home and thankfully he has a compressor and tools needed for the alternator pulley removal.  This time I only used the strap wrench with the air ratchet to remove and install.  Later ended up cleaning up the alternator.

Done and installed

Pretty right?  lol  :P

Since the alternator was back on.  It was time to add the bracket for the intake mani.

You might remember this lil pic from before right?  Yes!  It's finally time!  ;D

4 each TOMEI 555 CC side feed injectors!

As always it's always best to replace O-rings especially for fuel and who knows when the last time they were even replaced!  Both lower and upper.  Upper part # is 16618-10V05 and lower is 16618-53J00.

Install O-rings where located, lower.

And upper.

Pop that sucka in!

Now all are done and in

Time to move on to the upper insulator located under the injector cap.

It'll look like this on the injector, metal side down.

It'll easily hold into place with the lil notch sticking out on the cap.  Just remember that it'll go with the mold.

Put the cap on and then screw it down.

Fuel set up now done!

Forgot cap part #

Better right?  ;D

Finally coming together!

PCV hose going on

to here

Now to finally add that lil piece of hose to the fuel rail to the adapter L fuel rail that came with the GREDDY mani.

Also started to tackle the water lines under the intake mani

Plans are to clean, strip, re-paint, r2 (means remove and replace in the maintenance world, R squared, lol) the hoses and r2 the water sensors.

Figured while I'm painting I might as well paint the lil brackets that hold the engine harness along the front of the engine too!

Primered with high heat temp

I later painted it with high heat aluminum paint but it got dark as I finished with plenty O' coats of paint!  Time to let it dry and get it back together tomorrow.  Stay tuned! ;D

Thank you very much!  I try and it's my pride and joy.  I'm hoping to be hearing news of my car being done soon, so I can tow her back and start puting her back together.  Until then I'll post what I can and now it's time to start on the tranny.  Ughhhhh.......... m(~_~)m  zombie! :P
