So guys just aquired another 240. It needs some attention and I would feel alot more comfortable with the purchase if I either refreshed or replaced the engine. The t28 setup on the block is shot and I allready have to pull the tranny to replace both the throwout bearing and pilot bushing. Since im already pulling the motor out I can go one of 2 ways. Sell the s13 blacktop long block and order an s14 long block or rebuild the s13 long block with say forged pistons and factory rods. The engine has great compression but if you guys know me you know I prefer to do everything new.

Or just put a new turbo on her and boost the F out of her. Theres nothing wrong with the motor as far as i can tell. It idles and drives fine, just no boost and a blown turbo. Its more just piece of mind for me. Also who you guys recommend for an sr20det build in town?

just slap a t28, make sure everything is solid. drive it, use it for the purpose and have fun with it. knowing u buddy, when u start putting money on it and hit the peak u get tired of it and winding up selling it. dont throw anymore money in it... this time take the driving route. lets do it!

Mike,

You know me too well. You see though I allready have to pull out the engine and tranny so I can change out both the pilot and throw out bearings. I also am going to clean up the wiring and give it a complete and thorough look over for leaks ect. Hopefully the noise I hear is just the blown turbo claking around and not a worn rod bearing. I would hate to do all the labor and just have to pull the block again. Catch my drift??? LOL

throw a new turbo and check all the exhaust gaskets cause an exhaust leak can sound like a rod knock. and u can change throwout and pilot bearing with motor in the car not that hard to do. but if ur gona take it out of the car re sealing the front and rear main the oil pans and all the other seals just to make sure shes not leaking wouldnt be a bad idea. eugene is selling a t28 and so is jesses hannah from get nutz labz.

rod knock is like herpes:
if you had it, you'd know.
also i think if it were me i'd replace the rods over the pistons and even then only because of the rod bolts.

Yes, I am pretty sure you don't have rod knock... Here is a good check.

Does it sound like an angry garden gnome with a jackhammer is loose in your block? Probably not if you have to ask this question. Again you would know if you had rod knock. And if you are deaf you would probably find out very quickly when your rod decides it wants to see the world within the next 30 seconds of hard driving it sees.

If you are still worried and the motor is still in the car and drivable... go over to visit kyle throw him whatever his fee is for a quick diagnostic and have him check/listen to your car and he will more than likely tell you more than you want to know in a quick vehicle diagnosis.  I would recommend this since it will more than likely save you money and guessing effort in the long run.

Its not really driveable at the moment. I need to atleast change out the turbo and possibly the manifold depending on whether it has exhaust leaks or not. After that Im sure Ill have kyle take a look at it for me before I start to rag on her
