I have an sr20 with an alternator that has been re-built twice already. i've looked on zilvia.net and seen that peoople have taken ka alternators and just bored out a bigger hole for the bolt or what not. i just wanted to check on here to see if anyone else has done the same or has any knowledge on the subject. i would preferrably just want to buy another one, but i will entertain anything! i need this fixed and my ebrake installed and then i can start hitting the track.

i know this doesnt answer your question, but i believe there is some way that you can modify a Nissan Quest alternator to fit on an SR. I also believe that it has an output of around 120 amps. Just another option if the KA alternator doesnt work out.

I have a quest alternator on my KA right now. I also used one on my rb.

I had to enlarge the bolt hole and grind off some of the front nub because it was too large to fit in the bracket. Then I had to shim the from the back of the alternator so the belt ribs would line up properly.

I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work for an SR but I have never tried... and to be honest I am not as familiar with the SR block as I am with the KA and RB. You can always get one and take it back to checker if it is way off.

Do expect to have to drill out the long bolt hole on the alternator and possibly grind the front face. You should be able to slip it into place without having to drill or bolt it up to check the fit. Check it before you modify it just to be safe... it would suck if a Checker guy decided not to take one back because he or she was able to notice it had been drilled.

On a side note: Last time I went through 3 bad brand new alternators(rebuilt in Mexico) before I finally got one that worked properly. It was stupid and painful, DDS Kyle was there. If you need help he knows how to do it all.
