I've always wanted a s-chasis and now I have a year left on my lease and a decent job I figured it was time to step back into the FR game. I looked for a few months for a decent s-chasis shell that wasn't completely molested for under a grand, which really isn't a simple task these days... I must have looked at several s13's and talked to dozens of owners around town only to walk away with little hope of finding a new project at the starting point I was looking for. About two weeks ago I decided to join the local forums and search within the community. I found the car I was looking for, 92 s13 chuki front with a KA24de mounted to a 5spd trans with full interior. I was told the car runs harsh and was missing some minor hardware (Power steering pump pulley, cat, and fan shroud). Nick was awesome about collecting the parts for me though. It needs some aesthetic love but I'm hoping the engine will run strong after a couple adjustments and replacements. Well here is where the build begins...

(9/29/2010)
Today I stripped everything we shoved into the car out and wrapped it all up into a tarp and outlined it with some bug spray (I hate spiders!). I also cleared out all the dead spiders from around the car and started piecing the motor back together. I reinstalled the PS pulley, Electric fan, and Ziptied a couple wires together away from the engine fan to see if I can't get the car to start. Found the intake ram is broken but that should only be a $15 replacement (if that). I cycled the key several times to warm up the pump and almost fired the motor on the first crank... I was extremely surprised! You could smell the stench of bad gas which I suspected would happen since the car has been sitting for a long time. Luckily the tank is almost empty so I don't have to siphon it out. There is an obvious misfire which I'm hoping will go away with a small tune up.

PICS!

Sunday benchmark
-clean rear diff
-oil change
-coolant flush
-spark plugs (maybe wires too, if resistances are high)
-fan shroud installed
-drivers seat & seat belts installed
-exhaust bolted on

Future benchmarks
October 2010
-Major dents removed
-Body panels straightened
-Lit sleepy eyes
-Primed

December 2010
-All Dents removed
-Painted dry peal Aztec over Black

February 2011
-Stance GR+ PRO's
-XXR 521 16x8
-Achilles ATR 205/55
-Bings Lip

June 2011
-ISIS Front Tension Rods
-ISIS Rear Upper Control Arms
-ISIS Rear Traction Links
-ISIS Rear Toe Links
-Godspeed Crossbar

From their I have no clue yet. I am on a fairly low budget right now, So I'm focusing primarily on suspension components right now until I know what power option I am going after (KA-T or SR20). The car is going to be daily driven and see track time whenever I possibly can.

for as simple as you want this build to be, i bet you would have been better of buying a car that running and together.

Congrats on the start of your build!

However, don't jinx yourself on anticipated accomplishments on future dates...it never really works that way.

im actually excited for having you as a new owner! build is a plus.

get the car running, get cheap suspension that works, invest on track days. make it look nice later.

it will be better that way.

keep us posted.

I am getting the tires from Here, set of 4 205/45's is roughly $35 to my house.

I only wanted to spend at most 1k on the initial car. I have a year to complete the initial DD build up. So I'm really happy with where I'm at for the price I got for it.

Congrats on the start of your build!

I like to set benchmarks for myself, If I don't get to them, it's no big deal... I got plenty of tissues =P

Yep that's the plan, all I want at this point is to fully build up the suspension. I'm liking what ISIS has to offer, I have yet to hear anything bad about their suspension arms... Haven't heard anything about the coils though. Which is why I don't mind spending an extra buck on a more reputable coilover company. Although my buddy has godspeeds and has nothing but good things to say about them rather than ride height won't go as low as he wants.

Hmmm... didn't have much time today so I just wanted to check a few minor things in hope that I could fix the miss fire with a small and fast repair. I checked the firing order and it was correct, than I pulled the wires and found oil on #4 wire. Pulled all 4 plugs and found oil on #4 which is likely a O-ring leak. They all looked pretty dated and #4 was loose and didn't require nearly any force to un-tighten. I figured I'd take a long shot and throw new plugs in for $12 since I was going to do so either way and hope the #4 plug was bad. No luck though, I still have to test the resistance values on the wires and I'm going to do a compression test sometime this weekend. I want to get this engine running properly before I pull the motor for a good cleaning...

You also might want to check out SPL for your suspension option. They are a legit company, and when new versions of their product come out. You can send in your old ones for a upgrade and discount the new ones. its a good deal.

Ya I was also looking into KTS's... It all really depends tho, I know everyone knocks godspeed, megan, and isis... but I used to play airsoft a lot and everyone knocked the china made guns and now their the same quality as the top manufacturers and all I use, I've had my china made AEG for 2 years with no issues and still shoots a strong 320fps. I know people that run both godspeed and megan and loved them minus ride height issues. But as I said there are always issues with everything, Rotas used to be trash, and TEIN had to start somewhere as well.

Idk yet I'm still researching.
