I love the safety there.  Taking a pic while working with a band saw, with no gloves and most likely no eye protection. haha you would have gotten to ass a LOR if in the military. but your not, so you can do what the f*** you want which is what you just did!! haha

It's in the mechanical engineering shop. Safety glasses are on... gloves are actually a grey area as far as being beneficial with some things. You are not allowed to wear them working with some tools because they can catch and suck your hand/fingers in. Skin safely tears and spares you from a true mangling Smiley Band saw is on super slow speed in the picture to preserve blade life, lesser blade forces, and reduce blade heating.

I am safe that piece is barely moving, but then again you are right... silly to get an action shot, but every now and then the "tv magic" of my build thread gets boring to me.

So while I was working on things I found that my steering shaft input spacer was loose. So I fixed the steering spacer bolts loosening.
From this

To Weldement.. I actually welded all the nuts on the bolts and the opposites to their respective opposite housings.

Took a look at where the z trans mount ended up being with the regular 240sx mount bracket. It was surprisingly close and I debated just making two plates to give the bracket all 4 mount points

Then I used it to jig my mount.

Welding after tacking under the car.

Some quick welds on dirty metal... the metal in the middle was impossible to get anything close to clean due to having some crazy dirt and paint embedded in it.

Painted Satin Black

Bracket all Bolted up

Perfect ground clearance... Now I just need to make my exhaust a little tighter to the chassis.

Test painted a Rim to see if I want to go ahead with all of them. I think it looks pretty good. I am too broke for powder coating right now so Paint is going to be it for a while.

Tomorrow's Project the shifter linkage... it sits a little far back right now.

I didn't even make the freeway... about 50' out of the gate on the the boulevard.  lol

Oh... that was yours??? it was in the community paint pile at the house. I will get you another can sometime... I didn't use it all. lol

Thanks. Yeah I saved quite a bit but not as much as one would think if you factor in the time I spent... but my time is pretty cheap to me at the moment.

Thanks. Hoping to smooth out the upper part of my powerband, modify the spindles, install accusump, oil cooler and power steering cooler. Battery cut off switch... its a big list most of it is way less work than the transmission.

Hopefully there will be enough time

this car runs right? then dont worry about what isnt required to pass tech.
the powerband is fairly flat uptop and overall looks FAR from undrivable.
my vote it to put down the wrenches and go enjoy your car!
except for the cutoff switch. do that.

I do enjoy it. I enjoy working on it almost as much as driving it.  I'm a damn engineer for crying out loud lol. Car should be drivable tomorrow once I get the drive shaft and take a few minutes for the shifter.

As far as the power band being flat... I feel that loosing 140ft-lbs of torque over 2000rpm is a bit of an excessive drop off, but I will give you that it is very drivable. I am just building the car to my preferences.

On another note:
I had to take a day away from the project for a family thing. Progress should restart tomorrow when I get off work.

And on my way home the distributor rotor on my daily decided to come loose when I was going 65mph. It was fairly exciting. I just so happened to have everything on me I needed to fix it though so no biggy just 5 more minutes added to my transit time.

Sorry for the late update... lost track of time.

Worked out the shifter today. Originally I was set on shortening the linkages and making a custom bracket but then upon further observation decided it wouldn't require much notching to make the z bracket fit.

After drilling it out.

Found some metal to make a bracket for the bolt to clamp on.

Test fit after trimming

My Good friend Jordan drilling out the bracket... he looks smallish from this angle.

All installed... I ran out of white paint.

The drive shaft got finished up by Dan's Driveline. They did an amazing job. Fits Perfectly and with all rebuild-able u-joints.

Pat stopped by to bring me a seat that is certified to not spontaneously combust.

More tomorrow.
