Poll
Question: Do you think that spectator safety is an issue at ALL DRIFT EVENTS?
YES (spectators should be required to wear safety hats and goggles, or have spectator area "x" amount of feet away from action?) - 1 (2.7%)
NOT REALLY (debris flying at you is common at ALL drift events, spectators should take there own necessary precautions when attending.) - 24 (64.9%)
NO MERCY (i think if they're stupid enough to stand close to the wall, they SHOULD get hit with debris!) - 12 (32.4%)

the message i was trying to convey with this POLL is that ALL sports, motorsports, action sports, have risks associated with them even though you're just a spectator.

i.e-
baseball= getting hit by a foul ball
hockey= getting hit by a puck going over the protective glass
basketball= getting slammed into by a player when you're sitting court side
football= (from my experience RRRRAAAAIDERS!) beware of beer bottles and trash if you're the opposing team LOL
air shows= planes crashing, debris
nascar= debris from crashes still end up going thru the fence when they hit a wall
golf= yes, golf! you know what happens if you stand to close to the fairway...FOOOOUUUUUR!
rally= TOO MANY TO LIST

why do spectators like to take that risk? probably because it's exciting to watch! and no matter what it is you're watching every sanctioning body has SAFETY AS THE #1 PRIORITY, you should ALWAYS be aware of you're surroundings, take necessary precautions, maybe distance yourself from the action, and finally always expect the unexpected.

Agreed.
Seriously, getting hit with tire debris is not a big deal. Either man up or move away from the action. At an NHRA drag event (funny car and top fuel dragsters) it is 100 times worse, and no one makes a big deal about it. This type of thing should be expected at an event where the purpose is to create tire smoke

As for the wall, stand as close to it as you feel comfortable and are allowed by safety staff. Spectators have choices.

+1 for what trevor said. at round four i was hit by pieces of Ryan Tuerck's taillight while sitting in the grand stands. did i bitch about it? no. did i ask to have my money refunded? no. now i know there are people who will bitch just about anything, but if it satisfies some, maybe put up a safety notice by the wall or stands. But realistically to me, the waiver that people SIGN to get in in itself should be more than enough.

people who complained that day are useless.

it was just a coincidence that the wind that day was pusshing all the smoke into our eyes.

everyones eyes were irritated as fuck but it was the wind that was aiming straight at the crowd. thats all.

same thing that happens in a windy day in dessert all the dirt gets in your eyes

If they are so worried about it, then they need to stay home and play video games  Tongue

And who chose the first option in the poll?!?

I agree with everyone basically.. You sign a waiver, it is a sport, things will fly.. If you dont want to have it coming at you, either move or stay home~
