2011 Fd Rookie of the Year: Aurimas “Odi” Bakchis

by on Oct.16, 2011, under Media Coverage

The 2011 Formula Drift pro championship concluded last Saturday, 8 October 2011 and named Aurimas “Odi” Bakchis the 2011 Rookie of the Year and Top 16 driver for the series. Formula Drift Round 7: Title Fight took place at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, California and proved to be an exciting and dramatic finale to the season.

After finishing in fourth place at Round 6 in Las Vegas, Bakchis entered the final round with a strong lead in points for the Rookie of the Year honors. After a spin at the last turn during his first qualifying run, Bakchis drove a conservative second run and qualified 33rd in Irwindale on Friday. Although out of the competition, the pressure was still on to finish the season as Rookie of the Year as the 2011 rookie competition was fierce. The Rookie of Year title was set in stone for Bakchis after the results of the Top 32 tandem battles were finalized.
Bakchis earned his professional license in 2010 through the Vegas Drift Pro Am series and Top Drift Pro Am series. With only two years of drifting experience, Bakchis entered the professional circuit for the 2011 season with the Bakchis Motorsports/Forged Racing Nissan 240SX. The 2011 Formula Drift season then proved to be a success as Bakchis finished strong as Rookie of the Year and was honored as a Top 16 driver in the series.

Bakchis plans to run the Nissan 240SX chassis again for the 2012 season, with a fresh look and high performance engine modifications. With pressure to continue the successful start to his drifting career, 2012 promises to be an exciting season for Bakchis Motorsports.
