Vd Check-Up with Bobby Genson
by admin on Dec.20, 2011, under Featured Vegasdrift Cars
Vd – Bobby has been involved in the Vegas scene for some time now. Give us a background of yourself and how you started drifting.
BG – What is up Vegasdrift peeps, it’s BOBBYG! As some of you guys know I am part of the LIMITBREAK family and drove a seafoam green s13(R.I.P. Bessy). I just recently moved back from Socal and got to experience the drift life out there, it was cool but nothings better than home. How i got into drifting was, well I was always trying to slide stuff lol, when I was a kid I would drift my little plastic tricycle and with the remote control cars I would take the tires off so they would slide, I just didn’t know it was called drifting ahah, but what really got me into drifting was going to illegals and watching the drag racing and was honestly bored. Then I saw some FD footage on TV and was hooked. After that I got a 240sx and here I am 4 240′s later lol!
Vd – We’re glad to hear your Ok!! Tell us about the recent hit and run.
BG – The hit and run….man I was so pissed, can’t believe people now a days. I’m just thankful for making it out ok. It was just a normal Friday, just got paid and driving home from work on the 15 south merging to the 95 north and BOOOWW. I got hit really hard in the left rear corner and it sends me flying. Honestly what saved me from spinning around was counter steering. After I hit the wall, I saw the guy slow down with his hazards on and then just kept driving like nothing happened. They still have yet to catch him.

Vd – That’s unreal….Do you have any plans for the new chassis?
BG – The plans for the new chassis are to get some new coils. I want to get the chassis stitch welded but right now it’s not the time since this is my drift/daily car. What my biggest plan is to make it to a lot more Vegasdrift events, it’s been too long since I drove at a VD event.
Vd – Where do you see the sport of drifting in 5 years from now?
BG -Drifting is growing by the second, everyone and their moms are doing it. In 5 years I would like to see the sport getting its respect that it should have and be on the TV, being able to watch it like it’s a regular sport, having local drift clinics for the guys getting into drifting would also be nice.
BG – I’m not really a gamer but I am a proud owner of grid, haven’t played Forza yet. Grid is pretty dam close to real life.
Vd – What advice could you lend to someone that wants to get into drifting?
BG – The new people getting into drifting DON’T DO IT!!!! Ahah just playin, just gotta the have patience. The key I think is to just get out on the track and get seat time, and take in as much advice as you can and put it to use driving. Starting out you really don’t need much, everyone thinks that you have to get on that baller level like all the baller guys. You just need decent suspension, tires, and the motor, man that should not be a issue I think you can drift anything that has the ability. Check out my 2nd 240sx, all it had was dualcam, lowering springs and exhaust and it got down.
Vd – Thanks for the interview Bobby, Anyone you would like to shout out or thank?
BG – I want to first of thank WES and NICK for picking me to do a VD Check-Up and also everyone for the help and the events being put up, Vegasdrift, Justdrift, U-Drift and etc. My family for supporting me through all the work I’m doing when I need help with my car and letting me use their car. MY BIGGEST SHOUT out is to my crew LIMITBREAK, we all look out for each other, oh yea check out our tumblr page its Lemonbreadhouse.Tumblr.com. There are many more people to thank to many to list, so if I missed you I apologize but just know I’m thankful for all you. To everyone BOBBYG is out. Don’t be afraid to come over and say whats up if you see us around, we’re friendly. Happy Holidays and Happy New Years to all. Live life to the fullest!!

2011 is a wrap for VegasDrift. Last weekend 11/05/11 was the last but is definitely an event to remember, and I’m sure that the people who drove or watch would agree with me on that.
It was a pretty nice day as this particular Saturday was in between the rain in Vegas. With the demise of SEMA week, everybody was looking forward on driving. This is the 1st time that VegasDrift used the IRC (Infield Race Circuit) for drifting. I probably did about 3000+ laps in this course in the last year for working @ Exotics Racing. the 1.1 mile track has 9 turns and a straight away that could rip the Ferrari Scuds, 458 Italias, and Lambo’s up to 120+ mph speeds.
Of course, I was not looking into getting the top speed out of my dads S13 hatch. But I was really looking forward on drifting the back section where the link of turns are nice. Its very rare and close to none that we get to drift on a real track in Vegas, unless you drive 60+ miles to Spring Mountain Raceway.
Regardless of the experience I had on the track, it will be my 1st time to drive/drift clock-wise configuration. From the straight away, Turn 1 to turn 2 is the staging area. the fun begin as soon as the Vd staff release you on the track. Turns 3-4-5 are a good flow, 5-6 is a bit too long for my dads under-powered car but turn 6-7 is a fast 3rd gear on the floor action. I loved the part of the track as I was pushing it thru out the day. The track is surprisingly good on tires. I only used a pair for the whole day, totaled about 15-18 laps for ride-alongs.
Turn 4 entry tandem with Odi Bakchis (2011 FD Rookie of the Year) He was on my ass the whole time and was adjusting with angle. insane driver! very consistent. I had fun driving with him at this event.
Drove my dads s13 hatch the whole day. Wish my car was in town for this event. But I cant complain as long as I’m behind the wheel of a car. No problems all day with this car, just gas and go. If I had a lot of tires I would have probably drove my heart out. It was a great day for this.
The day was not just about for driving and practice. VD had a mini-comp, Qualifying style, best run and #1 Qualifier gets the bragging rights of the event and of the year. No tandem, no cage required. It was just about driving your own style and having fun. Vegas, Cali, Hawaii and Utah drivers was ready.
The judging section was set up between turn 3-4-5. The clipping points was very visible here and the entry. From (L-R) Ray Berlo (Safety and Track Marshall) Me, Odi Bakchis, and Joshua Guild as judges for the event.
Gary Ganotisi from Hawaii was full force on the field. He was driving hard! Best I’ve seen of him and he was good freestyling. Angle, Smoke, Speed, and line was great. He got 3rd Place.
Bucky Laing was impressive as always. Bouncing off the rev limiter, shooting flames and popping exhaust sounds. He wanted to kill the event with his explosive style. He was 2nd place and 1 point shy for the win.
Mr. B-Wick on the rise! if we can award the “Spirit of Drifting” it should definitely go to our friend from Utah. Brandon almost had a perfect score from the judges, hes 1st and 2nd runs was very impressive. Brandon was awarded the Best of Vegas driver of the year and won the prizes. Thanks to our sponsors for this event.
Brandon 1st Place, Bucky 2nd Place, and 3rd Place goes to Gary.
The mini comp lasted only about an hour or less. Everyone jumped back in their cars and started driving again. It was a very laid back and stress free event. Every one was just chillin and driving all day. Hopefully we will be back in this track next year, I’m sure the drivers will be double the amount than this one. If you missed this event its a shame, you missed out on a lot! Great track, great weather, great people.
except of course to some drivers like my good friend Inku who was sidelined for indefinite reasons. Oh how I know he was dying to drive that day. So here’s for the rest who was hating because they did not drive. “the birdie”
To end the blog entry, Nick Dizon as always had given his heart out and passion to the drift community. Vegas is indeed lucky to have this guy to Organize the local events.
See you all in 2012.
